Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication: The Venice Owner’s Guide
If the weld point on your Ghost Controls gate opener has cracked, separated, or sheared, we stock the fabrication parts and do the welding in our Venice shop, typically same week. Most Ghost Controls weld repairs in Venice run between $180 and $420 installed, depending on whether we’re re-welding the original bracket or fabricating a reinforced replacement from heavier stock. The work is done on Ghost Controls equipment daily here, and the price is written before we strike an arc.
How most owners find the problem: the gate starts with a lag on open or close, then develops a visible wobble at the arm or the post bracket. By the time most people call us, the weld has already failed once, somebody’s tried a quick fix, and the gate is swinging wider than it should with every cycle. The good news is Ghost Controls uses bolt-on brackets at most pivot points, which means the right fix is usually a fabricated replacement bracket or a clean re-weld, not a whole new opener.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
We see this across the entire Ghost Controls lineup: the AXDP and AXP series single and dual gate openers, the TSS1 and TDS2 solar models, and the older GTO Pro series that shares most bracket geometry. The compatibility gotcha to know is that Ghost Controls changed their post bracket hole spacing between generations. A bracket from a 2016 GTO Pro will not line up with a 2022 AXDP without an adapter plate, which is something we fabricate in-house rather than forcing the wrong hole pattern.
Identifying the right part starts with the label on the motor housing: the model number is printed on a silver sticker, and the manufacturing date is in the serial. Then the measurement that matters is the center-to-center distance between the two post bracket bolts, either 3.5 or 4.25 inches. Aftermarket fabrication shops in the Venice area will sell you generic U-brackets for cheap, but we prefer OEM-spec Ghost Controls steel or our own heavier-gauge fabrications when the original has proven too light for the gate’s weight. The older GTO brackets were stamped 10-gauge; our replacements are typically 8-gauge or better, which holds up far better on the heavier iron gates common in the canals district around Venice.
Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

- Visible wobble at the arm-to-gate connection. The weld is cracking but hasn’t fully separated. The gate will still cycle, but every open and close is widening the fracture. If you can see movement at the pivot that isn’t the hinge itself, it’s the bracket.
- Scraping or metallic groaning during travel. A partially failed weld lets the arm shift under load, dragging the bracket across the gate’s upright. The sound is lower and rougher than a dry roller. Left alone, the bracket will eventually tear off.
- Gate stops mid-travel with the opener still running. The arm has popped loose from the gate and the motor turns against air. This is a full bracket separation. The opener will auto-reverse or fault out and wait.
- Fresh rust streaks at the weld seam. On Venice gates closer to the ocean, salt air works into micro-cracks long before a weld breaks. Orange staining right at the weld line is corrosion you can see actively doing the work of a failure.
- Uneven gap between gate leaf and opener arm. The gate isn’t sagging; the bracket is bending. When the arm sits square to the gate in one position but visibly angles in another, the fabricated bracket is deforming under load and needs replacement, not adjustment.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Venice, expect to pay $180 to $420 installed for Ghost Controls welding and fabrication work, with the range driven by two things: whether the original bracket can be re-welded or needs full replacement fabrication, and whether we’re working on one arm or both. A clean re-weld on a single-arm opener with a still-straight bracket lands at the low end. A dual-gate system where both post brackets are cracked and need removal, fabrication at heavier gauge, and reinstallation lands near the top.
Under Clause 1 (Have it in writing), your price includes removal of the failed part, fabrication or re-welding, primer and protective finish, reinstallation, and a photo record of the installed piece with its weld points and bolt torque specs. We document the entire job and leave that record with you. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to all fabrication and weld work: if it fails within a year, we make it right at no charge. We’re an independent Venice service provider, not affiliated with Ghost Controls, but we service their equipment alongside LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and DoorKing units on the same trucks.
DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check two things without touching the welder. First, look at the bolt holes on the gate-side bracket: elongation or wallowing means the bracket was moving long before the weld let go. Second, measure the gate’s weight by disconnecting the opener and swinging the gate by hand. If it takes real effort to move, the weld failed because the opener was underrated for the gate’s mass, and re-welding alone won’t fix that.
The welding itself is not a homeowner job unless you’ve got a 220v MIG welder and experience welding overhead in awkward positions while a 300-pound gate hangs above you. We’ve re-welded more than a few DIY attempts that looked fine for two weeks and then tore out, taking more of the gate’s upright steel with them. If the bracket is cracked through, call Adrian and the crew at (213) 267-6777. The quote is written before any work, and you’ll get a photo log of the finished weld before we leave.
FAQs
A correctly spec’d and welded Ghost Controls bracket should last 8 to 12 years in Venice’s coastal environment, though gates within three blocks of the ocean may need weld inspection every 2 to 3 years. Salt air accelerates micro-crack corrosion. Most failures we see fall into two categories: undersized brackets on heavy gates, and corrosion spread that started at an unprimed weld seam. Call (213) 267-6777 if you want us to assess yours; estimates are free.
Yes, if the crack is less than half the bracket’s width and the surrounding steel is still sound, a clean grind and re-weld is a permanent fix. If the bracket is bent, cracked at a bolt hole, or showing fatigue fractures elsewhere, we fabricate a new one at heavier gauge. We’ll tell you which route is warranted based on photos before the quote is written. Call (213) 267-6777 to send us a photo.
Most single-bracket fabrication and weld jobs in Venice take 2 to 3 hours on site, including removal, fabrication if needed, weld time, cooling, paint, reinstallation, and testing. Dual-gate systems or jobs requiring post replacement can run half a day. We’ll schedule the work in a window that works for you and send a named technician with a photo before arrival.
We carry OEM-spec Ghost Controls post brackets, clevis pins, and gate brackets for the AXDP, AXP, TSS1, and TDS2 series, plus heavier-gauge steel stock for custom fabrication when the original part is the weak link. If the right bracket isn’t on the truck, our Venice shop is minutes away and we’ll grab it same visit rather than booking a callback. Call (213) 267-6777 and tell us your model number; we’ll confirm fitment before we dispatch.
