Elite Welding & Fabrication: The Venice Owner’s Guide
We keep Elite-compatible weldments and fabrication work in regular rotation at our Venice shop, and most cracked hinge brackets, bent gate frames, or broken weld points on Elite swing and slide gates run between $220 and $480 installed, depending on the part and how much grinding and re-fitting the repair takes. We can usually get a technician out to a Venice address within one business day for a weld assessment, and we’ll hand you a written price before any metal work starts. The way most owners discover a failed weld is not dramatic – the gate starts dragging on one corner, the hinge side sags a quarter inch, or you hear a metal-on-metal creak that wasn’t there last month.
Elite gates are solid machines, but the steel and aluminum components that hold them together take real punishment in Venice’s salt air. Weld fatigue at the hinge pockets and stress cracks along the frame rails are the two most common failures we see on Elite installations out here, and both are fixable without replacing the gate. We’re an independent service provider, not an Elite dealer, so our recommendation is based on what the metal is telling us, not on what we’d like to sell you.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite uses a few distinct frame and hinge configurations across their product line, and the welding approach changes depending on which one you have. The SL3000 and SL5000 slide gate series use a heavier gauge steel frame with bolt-on hinge plates; the CSW200 and CSW400 swing models run a lighter aluminum channel frame with welded corner gussets. That difference matters more than most owners expect – aluminum needs a different filler rod, different heat settings, and a different prep process than the steel frames, and a shop that treats them the same will leave you with a brittle repair that cracks again in six months.
To identify your Elite model for parts matching, look for a metal data plate on the inside face of the gate frame near the hinge side or on the motor mount plate. It’ll list a specific model number and often a serial prefix that tells us the production year. If the plate is gone or painted over, measure the frame rail width and take a photo of the hinge pocket from the inside – that’s usually enough for us to identify the series and confirm compatibility before we show up. On most Elite gates from the last ten years, quality aftermarket weldments and stock metal match OEM specs without any fitment trouble, but the hinge brackets themselves are often worth staying OEM on, since the bolt-hole pattern is proprietary and aftermarket versions rarely line up right.
Signs Your Elite Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

- Gate sags on the latch side. A quarter-inch drop at the free end means the hinge-side weld or the frame itself has deformed. The cause is almost always a cracked weld at one of the hinge pockets, and the sag will get worse every week until the gate starts scraping the concrete.
- You hear a distinct creak or pop during the open/close cycle. That sound is metal flexing against a failed weld point. When a weld lets go, the remaining metal carries more load, and the pop is the gate frame twisting slightly as the operator pushes through the resistance.
- Visible rust bleed from a corner joint or gusset. In Venice, salt air gets into microcracks at the welds and starts the corrosion cycle early. A thin orange line weeping from a frame weld means the joint has already opened up enough for moisture to get inside.
- The gate binds against the post or latch plate at one point in the travel. That’s usually a bent frame rail rather than a hinge problem. Impact damage from a car tap or a wind gust can tweak an Elite frame just enough that the gate no longer travels true, and the fix is a cut-and-re-weld at the bend point.
- The operator works harder than it used to. If the motor sounds labored and hot after a cycle, check for a dragging frame or a stiff hinge. A failed weld creates drag, and drag kills gate motors faster than anything else we see on Elite installations in Venice.
Before
AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For most Elite weld repairs in Venice, plan on a range like this:
| Repair Type | Typical Installed Price |
|---|---|
| Cracked hinge bracket weld (single point) | $220 - $310 |
| Bent frame rail repair (cut and re-weld) | $280 - $390 |
| Corner gusset replacement, aluminum | $310 - $440 |
| Cracked gate frame at operator mount | $340 - $480 |
The range depends on how much grinding the old weld needs, whether we’re working steel or aluminum, and whether the gate has to come off its hinges for the repair. Every quote includes the metal prep, the weld work, grinding and finishing, and a documented photo record of what was found and what was done. The price we hand you before we pick up the torch is the price you pay – no ‘additional labor discovery’ line appears on a later invoice. Under our 365-Day Done Right Promise, if that weld fails within a year, we fix it again at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?

You can safely do the diagnostic part yourself: push the gate manually with the operator released (the manual release lever is on the motor housing), and check whether the sag or bind is still there. If it is, the problem is in the frame or hinges, not the motor. Take photos of the weld points and the model plate, and you’ll know more than most callers do before we arrive. What we don’t recommend is pulling out a consumer-grade flux-core welder and attempting a frame repair on a gate that weighs several hundred pounds. A weld that looks fine on the surface but lacks penetration will fail under the load of daily cycling, and when it lets go, the gate can drop hard enough to do real damage to the operator and to anyone nearby. High-tension situations and load-bearing welds on heavy gates call for a trained hand. If you’re in Venice and your Elite is showing any of the signs above, call us at (213) 267-6777 and we’ll give you a written price before any work starts.
FAQs
On an original Elite frame, factory welds typically hold up eight to twelve years in Venice before salt air and thermal cycling start taking a toll. A properly done repair weld on a cleaned and prepped surface should last as long as the original, which is why we keep a Venice-specific prep process: grind back to clean parent metal, treat the surface against chloride intrusion, and weld with a filler matched to the frame material. Call (213) 267-6777 if your gate’s welds are showing age, and we’ll assess it at no charge with a written price.
Most cracked welds on Elite frames are repairable. We cut out the failed joint, prep the surfaces, re-weld with the correct filler, and re-coat the area. Replacement is only necessary when the frame rail itself is rotted through from years of salt-driven rust or when the gate has been hit hard enough to compromise the structural members beyond what a weld repair can restore. As a general rule, if the gate still hangs straight and the damage is localized to a joint or a single bend, repair makes more sense than replacement. Call (213) 267-6777 and we’ll tell you straight which side of the line your gate falls on.
Most single-point weld repairs on an Elite gate take 60 to 90 minutes on site. A bent-frame repair with cut-and-re-weld work runs two to three hours, and a full re-hang with new hinge brackets can stretch to half a day. We tell you the window when we quote, and we leave the site with a photo log of every weld, every adjustment, and every part number installed. Call (213) 267-6777 to schedule an assessment – we’ll give you a written time and price before we start.
We stock common Elite hinge brackets, gusset plates, and raw stock for frame repairs in both steel and aluminum on our trucks, which covers the majority of Venice service calls without a second visit. The proprietary hinge-pocket brackets on older Elite CSW models sometimes need a few days to source from our parts network, and we tell you that upfront before any cutting starts. We also service the other brands on the property – LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls – so if the weld is fine and the problem is in the motor, we’ll catch it on the same visit. Call (213) 267-6777 and tell me what it’s doing wrong, and I’ll tell you what it costs to make it right.
