DoorKing Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Venice Owner’s Guide

We repair and replace DoorKing keypad and intercom systems throughout Venice, with most jobs running between $285 and $540 installed, depending on the model and whether we’re replacing the keypad face, the circuit board, or the entire entry unit. We stock DoorKing-compatible keypads and intercom boards on our trucks, so a technician can usually have your gate entry working the same day we arrive. Most Venice homeowners discover the failure the hard way: the gate won’t open from the street, a visitor calls from the sidewalk saying nobody answered the intercom, or the keypad lights up but won’t accept a code that worked last week.

We’re an independent gate service company, not affiliated with DoorKing, and we’ve been repairing their keypads and intercoms in Venice since Adrian Vance started this company in 2014. The fix usually comes down to one of four things: a worn keypad membrane, a failed relay on the intercom board, corroded wiring at the terminal block, or a power supply that’s no longer delivering clean voltage.

Key Takeaways

  • Most DoorKing keypad and intercom repairs in Venice cost $285-$540 installed, quote written before work starts
  • We stock DoorKing-compatible parts on the truck: keypad membranes, intercom boards, power supplies, wiring terminals
  • Same-day repair is usually possible; we carry the common failure parts for the 1800, 1812, and 1815 series
  • You’ll leave with a written record of the part number installed and photos of the repair before and after

Which DoorKing Models This Applies To

The DoorKing systems we see most often in Venice are the 1800, 1812, and 1815 series telephone entry and keypad units, plus the older 1814 and the newer 1830-series access control keypads. Each series uses a different keypad face and a different intercom board, and they are not interchangeable. A keypad membrane from an 1812 will not fit an 1815, even though they look nearly identical from six feet away. The model number is on a silver label inside the unit, usually on the left side of the chassis when you open the front cover.

DoorKing’s OEM keypad membranes are the right call when the failure is mechanical, like worn or cracked buttons. For intercom boards and relay modules, we stock both DoorKing OEM parts and quality aftermarket equivalents. The aftermarket boards we carry have held up well in Venice’s salt air, but we’ll tell you which part we’re installing and why before any work starts. If you have the manual or a photo of the label inside the unit, that saves a return trip, but our technician can identify the model on site in under five minutes.

Signs Your DoorKing Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

Signs Your DoorKing Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
  • Some buttons work, others don’t. This is almost always a worn keypad membrane. The carbon contacts under the buttons wear unevenly, so the “1” and “3” keys stop registering while “9” still works fine.
  • The keypad beeps but the gate won’t open. The keypad is reading the code but the relay isn’t firing. That usually points to a failed relay on the intercom board or a broken wire between the keypad and the gate operator.
  • Visitors say the intercom rings but nobody can hear them speak. The microphone or speaker on the intercom board has failed, or the wiring between the intercom and the in-house phone has corroded at the terminal.
  • The display is dim or flickering. This is a failing power supply or a loose connection at the transformer. Left alone, it eventually takes the board with it.
  • The unit works after a power reset but fails again in a day or two. A capacitor on the control board is failing. It holds just enough charge to boot the unit, then bleeds off. The board needs replacement, not a reset.

These are the same five failure patterns we’ve documented on DoorKing units across Venice, from the canal streets west of Pacific to the apartment buildings off Lincoln. You can find more about how we approach gate and intercom repair on our Venice service page.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Repair Typical Installed Price in Venice
Keypad membrane replacement $285-$380
Intercom board replacement $340-$490
Full entry unit replacement (keypad + intercom) $480-$540
Power supply or transformer replacement $210-$300

Every one of these prices includes the part, the labor, and our documentation: a written price before we begin, a photographed record of what was found and what was installed, and the part number written on your invoice. The range exists because a keypad that’s failed from mechanical wear is a quick swap, while an intercom board that’s been taking dirty power for two years may need the transformer replaced at the same time to avoid a second failure in six months. Under the Haven Standard, you’ll see the flat price in writing and agree to it before any work begins. Then our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the repair for a full year.

The keypad itself is low voltage, so the main risk in a DIY attempt is misdiagnosing the failure, ordering the wrong part, and spending a weekend discovering the hard way that DoorKing’s series are not cross-compatible. What we do not recommend you touch is the high-voltage side of the power supply, which carries 120 volts into the unit. If the transformer is involved, leave the cover on and call us. A homeowner can safely check the breaker, confirm the unit has power, and try a master code reset. If the problem persists after that, it’s a part failure, not a programming issue.
